Well, where to start...... The Book Repair workshop went extremely well. Everyone seemed to learn new skills and meet new friends. It was attended by both school libraries and public libraries. We had 28 in attendance. I hope to be able to offer it again sometime next year. If you attended, please watch your email for a survey monkey document to come - I had so much fun that I forgot to do the evals - oops.
MARY ANN'S MEANDERINGS Author Mike Thaler, of the Lagoon School series fame, will be at Cattaraugus-Little Valley on May 17th. He will be doing assemblies in the elementary schools during the day.
You are welcome to come to his free, evening presentation at the Roberts Memorial Free Methodist Church, on South Street in Cattaraugus, at 6pm. Mike has a series of Christian children's books called, "Tales From the Back Pew." (I believe I will have copies that can be purchased that night.) - Lisa LaQuay
"We don’t know about you, but we never really think about how physical books get put together — and as e-readers become more and more prominent, the art of book-binding will probably become even more forgotten. This short film of a book being assembled with traditional printing methods, created for the UK’s Daily Telegraph, is a beautiful little snapshot of the printing process, so simple and lovely it seems almost like a dance. http://flavorwire.com/276008/watch-a-book-being-born Patricia Sarles, MA, MLS Jerome Parker Campus Library 100 Essex Drive Staten Island, NY 10314 voice: 718 370-6950 x1321 fax: 718 370-6960 psarles@schools.nyc.gov
At the last SLSA board meeting they discussed the possibility of SLSA endorsing the NYC Information Fluency Continuum as a state-wide document. NYC has done the cross-walk work with the Common Core. We will be voting on this at our meeting on April 26th. __http://schools.nyc.gov/Academics/LibraryServices/StandardsandCurriculum/default.htm__ Please read and comment, using the wiki. I think it really meets our needs and I would like your imput.
